I am back tracking a lot! Last year I thought, "In 2011, I will blog at least once a week, and keep a better journal of what we do as a family!" It was a very good idea, but we are now March 6, 2011, and I am FINALLY posting a new blog! Tomorrow is a new day! Hopefully, I will get better at this!
Anyways, these pictures are from Januray 25, 2011. Albuquerque got a record breaking storm that brought some snow and A WHOLE LOT of COLD, COLD, COLD! The kids ended up missing 4 days of school, not because of the snow, but the freezing temperatures! And the plumber had the busiest month of their lives fixing all of the pipes that broke because of the freezing temperatures! Thankfully, Steve did a great job at making sure our pipes were as warm as possible!
On this day, it was close to sunset (around 4:30pm) and the kids asked me to take them to the park to go sledding. I decided I would, but I was going to stay in the car...it was 4 degrees outside...not including wind chill! It goes to show how much more resilient kids are than us grown ups! Especially, when it comes to getting a chance to sled!
No, I can't explain how bitter cold it was! I even kept the heater on in the car while I took these pictures with my zoom lens, because I could hardly stand being out in it.
So the next few pictures of Ray are a series of one event! He came running across the park to tell me to watch him sled down the hill. And it was a long trek. He was running towards me, and I thought for sure he was freezing, and ready to get in the heated car with me and my zoom lens! Oh no, he got to me and just said, "Mom, watch me go down the hill ok?" Then he turned around, and took the long trek back to the hill for some more sub-zero sledding! :) Crazy kid!
Very happy and proud to come ask me to watch his sledding expertise! :) A note about those army mittens! We got the winter wear out, and Ray was ecstatic about these army mittens he found! He wore them in and out of the house for weeks! I do love how Ray just relishes the little things in life! He is a good guy to have around, and great reminder of how fabulous life really is!His long run back to the hill....
And when your mind gets going faster than your 4 year old body can go, this is what happens...
A snow plant! When I snapped the above picture, I thought for sure he was going to get up crying and heading back to the car! He hit his little face right in that FREEZING snow! And it is not soft powdery snow, it is tiny ice pieces! There was nothing soft about the fall!
But...he just picked himself up....
...one little frozen leg at a time...
and made the wise decision to walk to the hill, instead of run! :)
Loralyn enjoying a slide down the hill! You can see, the snow is not that deep, it was just still there, because it was so stinking cold!
Bobby, Loraly, Lydia, and Ray taking the trek to the hill where they could sled! And me, staying in the heated car, because it was just too dang cold for any normal human to want to be out in it! This cold spell sure made me LOVE and APPRECIATE our usually mild southwestern winters! I don't know how you northerners do it! :)
Bobby taking a slide...and getting ready to bail! :) Loralyn climbing for another go, and Ray getting ready to be taken out by Bobby! Luckily, Bobby wrecked before the collision of brothers, so Ray left unscathed!
On their last sled down the hill, they decided to all get on for the grand finale!
And someone leaned a little too far!
But they were all smiles at the bottom of the hill! All the kids, but Brigham, whom mom left at home with dad b/c it was just too cold for a little guy! I was surprised Ray did as well as he did!
Cute "D" (Bobby) carrying one of the sleds back! He really LOVES anything that has to do with being outside! He is a lot of fun, and still very mellow to be around! It is a nice addition to all of our outings!
Lydia is the best big sister! She is like Steve, and loves to pull and push around the little kids in whatever they come up with! She had been pulling them around the yard before we came to the park. When she first put them in the sled, I thought, "That is a long pull! I wonder if she'll make it the whole way."
And she did! What a fun way to get back to the car for Ray and Roo! :)
Loralyn LOVING the outing! He teeth are growing in, and trying to find places in her little mouth...and there is not any! :) I am still amazed that I had to call them in from the sledding! It was SO COLD! They were like little eskimos, right at home in the snow and cold!
Had to get a brother's picture! All the boys are so good to get along and play! It is so great! And they all enjoy the same things, which makes it nice! I freak out every time I see a picture of Bobby...he is just growing way too fast!
And our sister shot! Now these two could not be more different! There are quite a few cat fights we have to separate! It is a love/hate relationship though, because they will find things like "house", "teacher", or "vet" that they will play together for hours! I tell them they need to learn to LOVE being together, because I have serious girl fun time planned for when they are grown up! :) It is amazing how different kids from the same gene pool can be!
And all of them right before they got in the nice warm car! How grateful I am to be mom! Before we left, Steve tried to talk us out of going. He was trying to convince the kids it was too cold. I am glad the kids talked me into it! They had a lot of fun, and I got a kick out of sitting in my warm car and watching them! They really do work well together, and enjoy each others company! I sure hope that never changes...no matter how old they get!
